Characteristics

The Square Reader is available in two versions in the United States: one with a headphone port and one with a Lightning connection, which means it will operate with iOS or Android and can even connect to an Apple PC or Chromebook. Because there is no battery to worry about, it is much more beneficial.

The UK Square Reader is a basic but effective hardware device with a lightweight, small, and inconspicuous design that includes a microUSB connection for charging. It is compatible with Apple devices running iOS 10.0 or later, but not with the iPad 2 or 3. It is, however, compatible with Android 5.0 and above smartphones.
The Square reader accepts chip and PIN or EMV cards, contactless or NFC cards, magnetic stripe cards, as well as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay transactions. Wireless connectivity is used, and it is quite simple to set up.

Performance

As previously said, Square's card reader is a well-designed piece of hardware with a solid track record. There isn't much, and presumably, there isn't much that can go wrong.
Despite its small size, the Square reader is highly adaptable, featuring a slot for chip and PIN cards to put into the card reader for a physical transaction in the bigger model. At the same time, it is enough for contactless transactions, as clients simply need to hold their card near the device to make a payment.
The same can be said for Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other contactless payment alternatives for smartphones and wearables.

Square is one of the easiest card readers to use, and after you've joined up with the firm, it's also incredibly easy. If you run a business that employs your products and services in a more permanent location, you may already have a Square account.

The benefit of mobile card readers over fixed location POS equipment is that they provide more flexibility. Being able to exhibit in emerging events, marketplaces, or fairs means you'll be able to launch your business right away. Once there, this gadget takes all major credit cards and offers the allure of a set transaction cost. It's essentially a game.
Support Square has been operating long enough to know how to properly deal with clients. So, beginning with their website, you'll discover lots of assistance if you require it when using the Square card reader. First-time users should find the setup quite simple, but if you have any fundamental questions, there are lots of resources available online.

Final decision

Regardless of the version you choose, the Square Reader is a nifty little device that performs exactly what it says on the tin. It's a well-made device with a decent-sized battery (in the larger form), allowing you to use it all day before needing to recharge.

Along with its practical look and performance, we're particularly impressed with its one-price chip and PIN or contactless transaction pricing of £1.75% in the UK or 2.6% + 10¢ in the US.
When you combine the simplicity of Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other contactless choices, you have a full-featured smartphone that can fuel your business. If you're already a Square customer, it's the perfect complement to any static POS machine you may have, enabling mobility whenever and wherever you need it.
